Heyho,

this will be my last post :)

Because logging in to my blog did not work in Canada I had to wait until now to update my pictures.

We had an awesome time in Canada, thanks to the family we could stay with :)

We went to an obstacle course in the trees (don't know how to describe it), went to a huge swimming pool with humongous slides and to Quebec and Montreal (Jazzfestival) - AND a lot more ;-).

The flight back was 6,5 hours to London where we had to wait for another six hours before leaving for Good Old Germany again.

Evaluation

I would recommend doing such a thing to anybody who can afford both, time and finances!!
It doesn't have to be a roundtheworld-trip but simply doing something ,,crazy" on your own makes it worth it and you experience such a lot of things,get to know to such a lot of people,I tell you ...:)

My favorites:

Best food: Asia (Malaysia and Singapore)
Best City: Singapore/ New York
Biggest surprise: Malaysia (I was simply impressed!)
Biggest distances: USA/Canada
Most beautiful country: Canada/Australia

And after all that travelling I've got to say that it feels great to be back in Germany!
I was pretty critical with my own country but after being in other parts (according to people in TV better parts) of the world I recognized that life here is nicer thatn I always thought.
All countries had their pros and cons, but I learned to appreciate things in my own country I never saw that way- simply for that realization the trip was worth it, and of course for a thousand things apart from that ;-)

I want to thank all of you out there who supported me in any way- I had a great time and I thank God for bringing me AROUND THE WORLD!

PS: Maybe I will announce here when exactely my ,,welcome back-party" will take place,so keep looking here once in a while :)

New York - wow !!

Hey again,

yes, I'm still travelling, sorry for not updating the blog, but it was a whole lot of sight seeing over the last three days.

After staying for a day with Megan and Cyrus, our friends, we left Charlotte and went on to New York,well,actually to New Jersey and stayed with Andrea, another friend, and her family and had a great time here!

NYC is so big and there's such a lot to see,we went to:

-Ground Zero (9/11...)
-China Town
-Little Italy
-American Museum of Natural History (Night at the Museum!)
-Rockefeller Center
-Empire State Building
-Times Square
-United Nations Building
-Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
-Madame Tussaud's (even met Jerry Springer!!!!!!!)
-Staten Island
-Wall Street

and a lot of other things!
NYC is big, we've mostly been to Manhattan and that's only one of five parts here (Manhattan,Brookly,Queens,Bronx,Staten Island).
A lot of shops,mostly lined up at the street and not anymore at certain plazas and a REAL skyline!

There is really a lot to do,believe me.

On Friday, we'll leave for the last destination on my round-the-world-tour: Montreal!
So I'll keep you guys posted then!

Hey,

just a quick note:
Because it's been the last day of the students being together here we went to a baseballmatch here in Charlotte.

It was pretty interessting for me to learn the rules although the game itself is pretty slow except somebody hits the ball with his bat :)

We'll leave the appartment tomorrow and sleep the next night in Megan and Cyrus' (friends) house before leaving for New York then...

Yesterday we celebrated Werner's (one of the exchange students here in Linda's flat) birthday.

First he made some delicious Asian food at home in a wok and in the evening we went on to a bar and played some pool and table tennis.
Afterwards we went then to a disco and listened to the performances of Werner and Ryan (another friend) singing karaoke- well done,guys :)

I'm enjoying myself here in Charlotte and am looking forward to go with Linda to New York on monday.
At the moment we try to pack her bags because we'll leave the appartment here on saturday and stay the next two nights with some friends also here in Charlotte.

And then we'll go to the BIG APPLE :-)

Great Smoky Mountains - Camping

Hi,

we've just returned from our weekendtrip: Camping at the Great Smoky Mountains (Blue Ridge National Heritage area).

We had a wonderful time staying at a campground near Asheville (ONLY 3 hours drive from here).
On Sunday we went swimming and played frisbee at the nearby river followed by a nice barbecue.
The next day we drove another hour to the Chimney Rock Park and went up that mountain there,walking along different trails.

We had a great time, thanks to everybody !! :)

Hi,

I just wanted to give you a short impression of what I'm doing at the moment:

I'm staying in Linda's flat with friends from Germany who have their last days as so called "assistant teachers" at a school here in North Carolina.

After two days of relaxing and doing not too much, this saturday started with a ministry of the church which Linda attends here: Bringing food to homeless people.
That was very interessting,I tell you!
Afterwards we had a BBQ for all the people who come and help to do this homeless-people-ministry every saturday morning and it was sooo delicious.

Tomorrow we're gonna go hiking for two days to some nearby (ONLY 3 hours drive) mountains ;-).

I'll tell you how it was on tuesday then.

After more than 4500 Miles over the last three weeks I made it to North Carolina where I surprised Linda,my girlfriend, and from here on where gonna finsih the tour together-New York, then Montreal and on June 30th back to Germany!

I'm doing fine and am happy that my Round-The-World-Trip was totally successful: np diseases,no injuries,no missed airplanes or trains- Thank God it was a great time so far!!!!!!!!!

Washington was in the beginning disappointing,the trainstation seemed to be pretty old but once I was in the city center it was just great! I went to the Supreme Court,the Capitol and the White House.
Especially the architecture of the houses in the center is nice and to see George Bush's home was a neat experience :)

I didn't have more time there because I arrived at 2pm after an 18hours-trainride and left a 6.30pm again for North Carolina.

It was one of the most beautiful cities I've been so far.

Chicago was biiiig,I went up the Searstower (over 400m!) and had a great overview above Chicago. Public transport is good, a lot of shoppingareas along big streets and Chicago has even beaches since it is quite near to Lake Michigan...

Thanks to Birgit and THE GIRLS :) that I could stay with you,unfortunately shorter than expected.But even the short time was great :-)

No4 - Texas and Rangercamp

If there's one thing I've learned in Texas: DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!

Buying shotguns at Walmart is no big deal and as you can see,even the Rangers are shooting guns and cannons and we were even visited by an Apache and Blackhawk-Helicopter :)
But it was absolutely great! I really enjoyed my stay there and got a whole lot of impressions.

Our four days were full of activities (water slides,blackpowdershooting,.....),I went to a so called Challenge Course (high ropes course) and because the whole area was so big,we even had golfkarts driving all over the campground :)

Heyho,

just a quick note: I am in Kansas and having a great time!
I'm staying with Royal Rangers here and it's just fun and a great time!!

We went to Wichita,the next city here, and to the citycenter,went bowling and this afternoon to a huge salt mine,we went 650 feet down (over 200 meters)!!
Did you know that any types of important documents (like original hollywood footage,important political documents etc) are being stored down there to be protected from light and water,tornadoes and even nuclear bombs??

By the way,that picture of me standing at that pizza hut thing: This was the place where the first pizza hut restaurant was built!!!! :D

Was great and I'm so happy to be here!

Tomorrow we're heading for Dallas,Texas, and will have a Royal Rangers Camp there,so it might take some days until I'll let you know how Chicago is :)

Don't worry about me,I'm with great people here (again :) ).

White Sands...

Hey again,

today we went to the White Sands, a phenomenon which actually only exists here in New Mexico: Large Sand Dunes everywhere,miles over miles and NO Sea or Water close to it,just beaches as far as one can see :-)

Over the last days I got to see the variety of vegetation in this state: desert,forest,sand and HIGHWAYS ;)
The other pictures were taken yesterday when we went to a sun observation station located in this area here (the big white building's a telescope :) ).

I enjoyed the time here so much, although if it was pretty short, but I think I'll be back some day ;-)

Tomorrow it will go on to Kansas,you'll hear from me...

Heyho,

after 18 hours riding the Southwest Chief #4 (which had a lot of room for my legs,see pic above) I finally arrived at Lamy,New Mexico, where I was picked up by a friend and together we went to Santa Fe - a lovely city (the pueblo-style buildings are sooo nice!Hope you can see it at the pic) .That was yesterday.

Now today we drove some hours to get to Alamogordo,also a really nice town and that's where I'm gonna live until sunday (I had one of the best burgers around the world so far :) )

This state is as big as Germany but as a population of probably less than 10 million :D

As you can imagine there are not too many houses along the highways and interstates but big mountains and ,,Open Range" :)

Climate is atm like summer in Germany,maybe a bit cooler,but in summer it get's here about 40 degrees (Celsius).
I like it here and -oh ,almost forgot: IT IS TRUE,some Americans take there house along when moving from one place to another, today a truck with a whole house on its trailer passed us,but I was not quick enough to take a picture :D

I'm fine so far and I'll have a great stay here,I'm sure, so good to have friends all over the world - and such nice ones!!!!!!!!!!

Leaving LA...

Hi everyone!

Once more,I don't have much time and even less pictures-that PC here takes none :(
Anyway,Linda and I had a great time here in LA (she flew back today to Charlotte,NC-what a hurry,15 minutes before the plane took off she went to the Security Check!!! Everything was alright :) ).
Yesterday, we went to the Venice BEach Pacific Frontwalk and along the Beach (and saw loads of weird people),also went to In-n-Out Burger (THX Leon,was a good advise!!) and today downtown again.

Tomorrow I will get behind the scenes and have the great opportunity to look at those guys working at the real Universal Studios- it's a tour for people interessted in the busines offered by an academy that trains there people there-maybe I'll apply there,but I don't know yet.It's gonna be interessting to see these pros working there,I'm looking forward to it.

In the evening,I will start my 18 hours trainride to New Mexico then,I'll keep you posted!

Los Angeles - Hollywood

Hey everyone,

first of all: shalalalalalala la!!! VfB Stuttgart is Champion of German Bundesliga (soccer league!) wuahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! (Grr,and I'm in LA!!!!)

Starting the day watching the last match (which was won by Stuttgart) it could only become a good one :)
On my first day here I went to all of the studios located here in LA-Hollywood (Warner Bros,Universal,NBC,Walt Disney) because I'm thinking at the moment of becoming something in that business (film editing,special effects....) and therefore went to those studios in order to ask for some information-was pretty good.

The next day, Linda, my girlfriend, came here for a weekend visit and together we went to LA downtown and Hollywood yesterday, visting the Universal Studios and it was great!
You could see the original sets, the requisites and costumes of different movies (Cars of ,,2 fast,2 furious",Apollo 13-stuff,House of ,,Psycho",Bookshop of Notting Hill and a lot more...)

There were also shows with real hollywood actors including special effects and we did some themepark rides, as well.

A really interesting thing to do-so if you make it here some day make sure you'll go there!

Apart from that LA is a huge city with a lot of smog hanging above the city like a fog,often you can't see the horizon...

But we're having a great time here,living at Venice Beach :-).

Fiji-Update

Hi everybody,

finally,I have a working Computer again,for FREE in Venice Beach,Los Angeles :)
But I want to say few things about the fijis and next time,you'll get pics of LA.

The Fijis were exactly as I wanted them to be: totally relaxing!!
I had to take the ferry from the main island which took about 4,5 hours (@dani:even worse than thailand,I felt so sick sometimes).But it was woth it: staying at Oarsman's Bay was great!
Just liing around in the hammock,reading or snorkling were the main things I did :)
To get reception for my mobile phone I had to climb a hill,Internet was only the next island and it was pretty expensive.

The people living there were very,almost too,friendly and I joined them playing volleyball some days.

Food was also good, and what else? Weather of course as well,always sunny.
The only thing we guests wondered was why we were always tired at 8pm already-well,the sun sets at about 5.30pm there so its dark and because it burned all day long on your head it is quite tiring.

Anyway,it was a great time there and now I'm fit again for the US and Canada!

After 10 hours in the airplane I arrived savely in Los Angeles, California.
Everything went just fine and I am now at a hostel in Venice Beach :)
Unfortunately this computer cannot load my photos,
thats why you have to wait a little more to see the new photos of the last couple of days.

Hey everyone,

yes-I arrived at the fidjis and am at my hostel now.
But I already have the first problem cause the agency supposed to be giving me my vouchers for the ferry to my resort I'm gonna stay in was closed-no vouchers,nothing.
So I printed every confirmation thing I had now and hope it'll be enough to get me to the yasawa islands...dude dude....

well,I don't have time-once more- so please have a look at the pics :)
They were taken in different parts of Sydney: Harbour, Darling Harbour,Coogee-beach,Bondi-Beach and Manly.

Sydney was great- especially because of the great people I could stay with!!Thanks again Thomas and Angie!!!

And Australia in general was good-a nice spot on our earth :)

Hey!

Wow,I have internet again!!

Looking at the picture it should not be too hard to guess where I am at the moment: Sydney!
I'm staying with friends here until friday and it's sooooooo nice :)

The landscape-pictures were taken in Port Stephens and Newcastle-the destination I went to before Sydney for two days.
Since Monday I am in Sydney and it's a nice city as far as I can say.
Today I did my tourist-have to's and went to the Operah House,Coathanger Bridge and went the main-shopping-street (Pitt St) up and down.
And I also went to a barbershop,I think,I've gotta practise my English a bit more too tell them next time more detailed,HOW I want my hair cut.
It's not that bad,but not quite as I wanted it to :)

Anyway,I like it here :)

Surfin' Australia

Ok guys,

as promissed,here are the pics of my surfing lessons:

Yesterday and today I've been surfing for the first time in my life and surprisingly everything went quite succesful :)
Byron Bay is a nice spot and tomorrow I'll go on to Newcastle (the Australian Newcastle!!) and after that to Port Stephens before the last destination will be reached on monday: Sydney.

I don't have more time atm,sorry.

Hey again,

ok,one of my last stops in Australia is here: Byron Bay!

Endless beaches,a lot of sun and especially surfers are pretty common here.

I will take some lessons tomorrow and if it's fun I'll do some the day after tomorrow as well.

Today I went with an English guy up to the lighthouse of Cape Byron and afterwards wanted to go and look for the surfershop offering these lessons,walked for kilometers with no result...
My flipflops broke for the third time now so I decided to buy some new ones.

Well,apart from that everything is ok.
I'll try to get some information on my next stop,how to get there and where to stay,but the next days till saturday I'll be here.

Hey again,

today I didn't accomplish too much,I was walking around here for about 12 Kilometers in the full sun,which was somehow a bit too much for my head,anyway,here are some pics of the area here and the huge shoppingcenter I went to.
It was a mall with an ouside-yard as well,very interessting...

And I went for a dip in the water,really nice!

Tomorrow my bus to Byron Bay is leaving in the afternoon,I'll keep you posted.

Surfer"s Paradise

Howdy,

I'm in YHA Surfer's Paradise right now and it's a nice spot,somehow like little Singapore with all these skyscrapers...

Today,I went to a themepark called Sea World,which was somehow a waste of money (60 $),well,to be fair, the dolphinshow,the underwater shark-bay and the 4D-cinema was cool,but the rest was somehow far too familystyle and not really for backpackers :)

To those who know the Europapark in Germany: It was about 20% of the size maybe,only one rollercoaster and the rest is not worth to be mentioned,except the animals :)

Anyway,the beaches are far and long here as well and the water is the same as everywhere-clean and great :)
